You might think there is nothing to do in southern Maine in March but boy oh boy is there a ton of stuff to do! There’s St. Patrick’s Day, a Walk for Cancer, Maine Maple Weekend, and Easter just to name a few. When March comes so does Spring! The question remains what to do in March in Southern Maine.
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade hosted by the Irish American Club of Maine is one of the biggest parades around. It starts at noon on the infamous Commercial St. Portland. People will dress with as much green as possible to honor the life of St. Patrick, and showcase the Irish culture.

Along with the parade there will be an Open House at the Maine Irish Heritage Center location, which has got to be one of the prettiest churches in Portland.
One of the most popular Cancer Walks in Maine is Mary’s Walk in Saco. In 1999 Mary’s Walk started as a way to honor the revered Mary Kerry Libby who lost her battle to cancer.

It has been a way to raise money for cancer for the state of Maine. Since its inception the Walk has raised over 4.2 million. It has over the years been an event that also showcases a sign of spring, shamrocks, green wear, and a way to regard Mary’s Irish heritage.
Maine Maple Weekend used to be just one day but now with its

popularity it is an entire weekend at the end of March. This will be the 41st year of celebrating Maine’s finest maple syrup! Some farms will have games, tours and music as well.

Easter Egg Hunts have been a tradition for centuries because it celebrates the rebirth of Jesus in Christian religions. Custom had it that the hare or Easter Bunny would bring a basket of brightly painted eggs for all the children who had been good, and these would be hidden around the house and garden for the children to find.
Whether you walk the parade or charity or venture out to sample some Maple syrup or hunt for eggs I hope you have a wonderful time in doing so. For any other events that occur in March simple click this link & to book a stay at the Alouette Beach Resort click here! Happy Marching!
