Furry Friends Welcome!

Alouette Beach Resort is happy to be one of the most dog friendly hotels in Old Orchard Beach. We welcome well-trained and housebroken dogs along with their responsible pet owners.

Whether running free on the beach, playing fetch, digging in the sand or simply taking in the sun – what can be better than this?

As traveling with furry friends has been on the rise, the main thing for pet owners to think about when they travel with their besties is making sure that their accommodations are pet friendly. Not all places are so do your homework or call where you’re looking to stay direct.  Other things I might look at are dog friendly restaurants or even attractions. A great resource for this is Bring Fido

Because my furry friends and I like being active and exploring new areas, another resource I might use is TrailLink. They offer a comprehensive guide to dog friendly trails with descriptions, photos and reviews.

And as much as you’d like to just grab your dog and go, there are a few things you’ll definitely need to bring along so you’ll be prepared, such as:

  • Poop bags, a leash and harness, and ID tags.
  • If your dog has a certain diet, pack food, as well as collapsable bowls and water for the road trip.
  • If you’re in an environment that Fido’s not used to, maybe consider bringing his favorite toy and bed to keep him comfortable.
  • And if you’re hitting the trails you may want to consider bringing tick medicine.
  • Also, it’s never a bad idea to have medical records, travel documents or even a pet first aid kit on hand if needed. With that being said, make sure Fido is up to date on standard vaccinations before your trip.

If Fido is not used to traveling, start practicing before the trip. Take short trips to get him used to the experience and reward good behavior with treats, toys, or praise. If Fido knows a few basic commands, like “sit,” “stay,” and reliable with recall, it will make managing a dog while traveling easier.

And lastly, when traveling with a pet, be considerate of others. Keep your pet on a leash, clean up after them, and be respectful of other travelers’ space and comfort. If you’re traveling to a new location such a beach, parks etc. it’s always good to see what the rules are. If you’re visiting our beautiful beach in OOB I’ve included the town rules Town of OOB .
