Fall at the Alouette in Old Orchard Beach

For many people, October is the best month of the year in New England. October means trees dressed up in their finest, most colorful attire, heading to a picturesque orchard for apple and pumpkin picking and maple candies, then wrapping up the month wrapped-up as your favorite mummy as you sip a spiced cider (or rum :). Oh, and don’t forget the fairs where you can watch the pigs scramble and the horses pulling while you rate the cotton candy and caramel apple vendors.

The Alouette is the perfect “home base” for all your fall adventures in southern Maine. Here are a few ideas for your Maine Fall Bucket List:

Trails

Explore the many miles of the Eastern Trail either on foot with your camera clicking or on a bike with the leaves crunching under your tires (can’t you just smell it?)

Sightsee from the Water

Take a sailboat, charter or lobster boat tour and enjoy the reflections of the foliage on the water while you sip a hot toddy.

Scenic Drives

There is also so much to see as you drive the coast in your car! Click here for some popular routes.

State Parks

Our state parks invite you to take in all of nature’s fall beauty as you walk or sit with your delicious fall picnic. Click here for a current Fall Foliage map.

Paddle Along

Paddle a canoe or kayak on a Maine river or through the Scarborough Marsh with it’s gold and red October hues.

Spooky Fun

Haunted hayrides, corn mazes, spooky houses and walks are plentiful and oh! so much fun for the kiddos as well as the adults. Click here for a list of haunted attractions.

Brewfests

Local breweries and bars and other venues hold brewfests for adults that wish to sample the many craft beers now available all over the state. See a list of Maine Craft Breweries.
