When I was a kid from Massachusetts we visited Maine every summer. My parents didn’t think it made much sense to sit in traffic to go to Cape Cod so they went for the drive to Maine and fell in love. I too, fell in love. I made sure every trip I had in hand the infamous Maine Gazetteer map and would direct Dad where to go. We would go down roads unknown and come across some of the most majestic and magical parts of Maine. For instance, one trip was all the way up the coast and we found towns like Stoningham, the island of Monhegan and Cutler. Just absolutely tremendous and beautiful.

In these travels I realized how special Maine is. It isn’t just one town one visits when they come to Maine. One needs to see it all because it has so much to offer. There’s Camden with its beautiful harbor, Boothbay Harbor where Pemaquid Lighthouse is a hop skip and away, Bar Harbor where the Acadia National Park

is located and Eastport, the easterly most point in the United States, which nearby is West Quoddy Head

Lighthouse. And that is only the coast of Maine! Jackman for example, is a town all on its own and on the way to Quebec City. Baxter State Park features the highest mountain in Maine, Mount Katahdin. Near Baxter State Park is Greenville, where I will never forget how we stumbled upon the fireworks display that surpassed Boston fireworks because the fireworks would echo off of the mountains, it truly was spectacular.
I simply can’t capture it all but I wanted to point out the best place to visit is Old Orchard Beach, one because it is fun and two it’s the perfect spot to stop before seeing the rest of Maine!

Old Orchard Beach or known as OOB is just a fantastic place to visit. It holds a beach that is seven miles long. What makes the seven miles of beach so extraordinary is it is a flat beach with minimal dunes. So, laying out in the sun all day is optimal.
There are fun things to do as well such as Palace Playland which is New England’s only beachfront amusement park. There are over 30 rides for all ages. And lastly it holds an arcade with over 200

games to choose from. Pirates Cove, putt your way through mountain caves, across a full-scale pirate ship, over footbridges and under cascading waterfalls-all amid a fun-filled atmosphere of meticulously-kept landscaping and enchanting pirate lore.

At Pirate’s Cove, all ages can “meet the challenge” on our award-winning 18-hole courses! Jungle Adventure is where you can experience the thrill of blacklight 3D Mini Golf. Their 18-hole course is designed with vibrant jungle themes and features Chromadepth 3D glasses for an immersive experience. The climate-controlled environment ensures a comfortable visit year-round, making it perfect for families and friends seeking a unique and entertaining activity.

This only scratches the surface of what there is to do in Old Orchard Beach. Neighboring towns have plenty to do as well and one thing you have to see is Portland Head Light, which is the most photographed lighthouse in the world. It’s only about 25 minutes away so worth the visit for sure!
For more areas of interest go here for more information. I have most festivals listed on our Events page, hopefully you’ll be able to experience one in Maine. I simply can’t wait to meet you and sure hope you make your stop here at the Alouette Beach Resort before seeing the rest of Maine and telling me all about it!
