It’s June, which means it is the start of car shows in Southern Maine. Some will be new some will be long-time traditions. Car shows began at the turn of the 20th century because the population was demanding new ways to replace the horse carriage due to the environmental cataclysm the horses were accruing in the city streets.

The first car show was on November 3, 1900. It technically was deemed as the first auto show which showcased all kinds of vehicles of the time. In fact, over 150 vehicles were exhibited in New York at Madison Square Garden. It was an innovative time of electric, steam, combustion engines, and even powered horseless carriages.
What little did they know at the time that this would inspire car owners to show off their pride and joy. It also led into a culture where collectors and restorers would display their best and maybe even sell them at auction. In the end it is a place where owners of vehicles can share their passion and come together for some fun and entertainment.

Some of the events to highlight are Corvette Weekend in Old Orchard Beach on June 13-16, where corvette enthusiasts bring their cars to downtown Old Orchard Beach and celebrate with each other with food and a bonfire on the beach.
Another great event is the Saco Car Show at Thornton Academy on July 27, 2024 where over 150 cars will showcase not just cars and trucks but muscle cars as well. This one will have food and live music for entertainment.

And lastly is Throttle, the new venue for car fanatics in Scarborough. They have a few events they will be hosting this summer. They will have an Auction starting May 31-June 1, Cruise-In Shows all summer long and a Exotic and Supercar show on August 10.

It is worth mentioning Throttle also is a place to just hang out in general with your car of course! It has Karaoke and Trivia Nights as well. For all mentioned events and more visit out Events calendar here and make it a getaway too by staying with us at the Alouette Beach Resort!
