So, I went! I didn’t expect to go but my boyfriend and I popped in his car and went to Bingham, Maine which for us was about 3 hours north near the southern Moosehead Lake region.
People were from everywhere such as Georgia, Connecticut, Florida, California, and even Mexico! We even had eclipse cookies!

Never did I ever expect how spectacular the event truly was.
The moon just kept chomping away at the sun slowly but surely anticipating the totality. And just as slowly, the world around us became darker, cooler, and windier, it was eerie in a way. And then suddenly we ripped off our glasses to see the black disc covering the sun. The whole crowd cheered in exhilaration!
The moon stayed over the sun for a couple of minutes and in these minutes the stars and planets, Venus and Jupiter, popped out and the whole world went dark. It was like the sun set in the middle of the sky.
I did go against my word that I wasn’t going to take any pictures but I couldn’t help but get one. Once the moon slid over the sun it created this diamond ring effect which was beautiful. Shrills of exhilaration from the crowd occurred.

Just as soon as it came it went. It truthfully felt like seconds instead of 2 minutes. Everyone asked how the traffic was and my response was it was all part of the experience and we didn’t care it took twice as long as it normally would. I think this will be my once in a lifetime occurrence because the next one in Africa would be quite the haul to see, but I have definitely experienced the urge to see another one-maybe Australia!
