DESCRIPTION:portBOWIE is Maine’s premier homage to the music of David Bowie. It’s not a band that stresses the visuals and costumes; rather\, this band focuses on Bowie’s MUSIC\, diving deep and bringing out the essence of his songs\, whether it’s a big hit or a deep cut. \nIn 2015\, singer Mat Zaro was invited to assemble a group for a battle of the bandsplaying David Bowie’s music. That band included drummer Luc Bergeron. It went so well that Mat approached Luc about forming a permanent group. In January of 2017\, this new group\, at the time named “The Blackstar White Duke Band\,” played Bowie’s last album\, “Blackstar\,” in its entirety\, gaining admiration and respect fromlive audience members and YouTube commenters from around the world. \nZaro and Bergeron co-lead the group\, which was renamed portBOWIE in 2018; other members are Scott Hughes and Jerry Perron on guitars\, Jim Goss on keyboards\, Stu Mahan on bass\, and Andrew Doody on saxophones. They’ve performed themed shows through the years and have done full performances of the albums “Ziggy Stardust\,” “The Man Who Sold the World\,’ “Liveandwell.com\,” “Stage\,” “Station to Station\,” “Hunky Dory\,” and “Blackstar\,” to the enjoyment of audiences in Maine\, New Hampshire\, and Massachusetts. \n2026 will mark the 10th anniversary of the release of “Blackstar” and the 50th anniversary of the release of “Station to Station\,” so shows in 2026 will include a complete end-to-end performance of “Blackstar” and all of the songs from “Station to Station” – two albums that Bowie stated were his favorite to listen back to. For these performances they will have some special guests\, including Adam Montminy on Tenor Saxophone and Sean Slaughter (The Masterstroke Queen Experience and John Hughes Radio) on vocals. \n

He helped establish his own music festival\, performed on national television\, and garnered millions of streams. In 2019\, his song The Ballad of the 20th Maine became the official Maine State Ballad\, securing The Ghost of Paul Revere’s place in Maine music history. \nIn fall of 2024\, Griffin released his debut solo album\, Hundred Mile Wilderness. Recorded in Nashville\, at the famous Sound Emporium Studios with acclaimed producer Eddie Spear\, featuring ten all new\, all original songs that further expand on Griffin’s extensive and beloved catalog of music. They’re thrilled to release their first new album in nearly 20 years\, Division of the Human Mind\, now available on streaming platforms. \nAndy Happel (violin\, guitar\, vocals) is TTG’s lyricist and primary songwriter. Based in Scarborough\, he teaches over 60 music students weekly and brings unmatched energy to the stage. \nDrew Wyman (bass) drives TTG’s signature sound with inventive techniques and powerful tones. He’s also the Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association\, Maine Chapter. \nSean Daniels (drums) anchors the band with precision and dynamic skill. Active in RSU 35’s music program\, he also performs in local theater productions. \nKris Rodgers (keys\, vocals) is a Maine-based musician known for his work with Kris Rodgers and the Dirty Gems. DESCRIPTION:Ellis Paul doesn’t just write songs; he’s a guitar-carrying reporter who covers the human condition and details the hopes\, loves\, losses of those he observes\, turning their stories into luminous pieces of music that get under your skin and into your bloodstream. And much like the artists who have influenced him\, everyone from Joni Mitchell\, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon to the singer-songwriter who is undoubtedly his greatest inspiration\, Woody Guthrie\, Paul weaves deeply personal experiences with social issues and renders them as provocative works that are as timely as they are timeless. Born and raised in Maine\, Paul attended Boston College on a track scholarship and in the evenings became a fixture on the city’s open mic circuit. After winning a Boston Acoustic Underground songwriter competition\, he caught the ear of folk luminary Bill Morrissey\, who produced his indie album Say Something in 1993. This led to a seven-album contract with Rounder Records and the 1994 album\, Stories. \nHis songs have appeared in several blockbuster films (Me\, Myself\, and Irene; Shallow Hal\, Hall Pass) and have been covered by award winning country artists (Sugarland\, Kristian Bush\, Jack Ingram). Through a steady succession of albums of his own – a remarkable 23 releases so far – and a constant touring presence around the world\, Paul’s audience has grown into a loyal legion of fans. DESCRIPTION:An undisputed expert in the fine art of making hit music\, Jim Messina’s legacy of musical genius spans five decades\, three super groups\, a vibrant solo career and scores of producing and engineering credits. \nWhile acting as producer/audio engineer for Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Buffalo Springfield\, Messina ultimately joined the band as its bass player. When “the Springfield” disbanded in 1968\, Jim and fellow bandmate Richie Furay formed Poco. With Jim on lead guitar\, Poco defined a new musical genre\, Country Rock. After three successful albums\, Jim was ready for a change and left to return to his passion for producing music. He signed as an independent producer with Columbia Records. \nIn November 1970\, Columbia asked Jim to work with an unknown Kenny Loggins. While helping Kenny get ready for a record and touring\, the two discovered that they worked well together and Jim agreed to sit in on Kenny’s first album. Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina Sittin’ In was released in November of 1971 and an accidental duo was formed. \nOver the next seven years\, Loggins & Messina released eight hit albums\, had scores of hit songs and sold over 16 million albums. They had become one of rock’s most successful recording duos ever\, but it was time for the duo to go their separate ways. \nAfter a series of celebrated solo acoustic tours\, Jim formed a band made of acclaimed musicians who have played with him at various points in his career. His latest release\, In the Groove\, includes selected hits from all three of Jim’s previous bands\, as well as several of his solo works. \nTouring the country and playing sold-out shows\, Jim says that he’s enjoying discovering who he is\, where he’s been and\, most significantly\, where he’s going.

DESCRIPTION:Dub Apocalypse is a powerhouse instrumental dub reggae band from Boston\, MA\, blending deep grooves\, adventurous soundscapes\, and top-tier musicianship. \nFormed in 2007\, the band was started by drummer Tommy Benedetti (of American reggae pioneers John Brown’s Body) and guitarist Johnny Trama\, and brings together some of the city’s most versatile players: \n\n\nTommy Benedetti (drums) – A founding member of John Brown’s Body\, Benedetti brings decades of experience in reggae and dub\, having toured internationally and recorded for labels like Shanachie\, John Zorn’s Tzadik (mixed by Bill Laswell)\, and Easy Star Records. He’s also backed legends like Justin Hinds and The Meditations. \n\n\nJohnny Trama (guitar) – Known for his soulful blues touch\, Trama has toured with B.B. King’s organist Ron Levy and many regional soul and R&B acts\, grounding Dub Apocalypse’s signature sound with his rhythmic clarity. \n\n\nTimo Shanko (sax/bass) – A dual-threat player and longtime friend of the band\, Shanko adds Coltrane-inspired sax improvisation and heavy bass grooves. He’s a veteran of the blues and free jazz scenes\, and has played with Eddie Kirkland and G. Love & Special Sauce. \n\n\nAaron Bellamy (bass) – A fixture in Boston’s funk scene\, Bellamy’s hard-hitting grooves lock in with Benedetti to create the militant rhythm core of the band. \n\n\nVan Martin (guitar) – Originally from Chicago\, Martin adds sonic texture and songwriting chops. He’s toured with Bernie Worrell and Big Daddy Kane\, bringing dub experimentation and bold improvisation to the DA sound. \n\n\nTogether\, Dub Apocalypse mixes original compositions with deep cuts and reinterpretations from Jamaican and UK dub catalogs. Their live sets are dynamic\, with a twin-guitar attack\, jazz-fueled horn lines\, and rock-solid rhythm at the center. \nThe band has won a Boston Music Award\, was named one of The Improper Bostonian’s “10 Local Acts You Need to Hear Now\,” and maintains one of the city’s longest-running and most popular weekly residencies. \nThey’ve released three full-length albums – Road to Oblivion\, Frozen Planet\, and Sound the Alarm – and have performed alongside reggae legends including Papa Michigan\, Carlton Livingston\, Jahdan Blakkamoore\, and UK dub pioneer Mad Professor.
